President's Greeting
The John P. McGuinness Division of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians was
chartered over 35 Years ago, in 1965. The Division was originally named after the
late U. S. President, John F. Kennedy.
The Division was later renamed the John P McGuinness Division after one
of its founding fathers. John
McGuinness had a tremendous sense of his Irish Heritage and Culture. He enjoyed
traditional Irish music and would entertain the membership after the monthly
meetings with songs, dance and story telling. In 2002 the name
Richard Fitzsimons was added to our division name. Richie, as he was known, was a victim of the September 11,
2001, atrocity at the World Trade Center.
He was on the job in the World Trade Center helping to evacuate
children, occupants and visitors when our world changed that infamous day.
Today Division 14 has nearly 200 members. We are active in many charitable
causes such as supporting the Diocesan Mission for the Rockville Centre Diocese
in the Dominican Republic and "Burnt Out Churches" in Northern
Ireland. We are actively involved in the Freedom for all Ireland Committee, The
Nassau County Feis Committee, Irish Heritage presentations, and we participate
in many Irish and Irish American Parades and activities. We boast of our own
"Glor Na nGael" Pipes and Drums Band and our Uniformed Honor
Guard for our "St. Patrick Banner".
As Irish and Irish/Americans we are proud of our Heritage and Faith. We are
deeply involved with Catholic Action and Pro-Life Committees. Being of Irish
blood is truly a blessing from God. We are proud yet humble, fierce yet loving,
gregarious but soft of heart. We are frugal yet free with our generosity. We
live hard, play hard and are devoted to our God, our families and our
Country. If you are an Irish-Catholic and would like to be involved
with our "Hibernian Family," we welcome you to apply for membership.
